Extracting More Information Using Less
Several times, through the period of my career, I’ve seen analytical problems that were considered difficult or even impossible, become routine. It is these advances and the information they provide that propels science and technology today.

HELLO GUYS. I know you all are nearing IA submission time and i thought i would drop in and try to help you guys taking bio. Before we submitted our Bio IAs, my teacher gave us a checklist, to see if out work had satisfied the marking rubric. I found it really useful, and it helped me get my 7 (HL), so i thought it would be useful to you guys too! Bear in mind this was what my teacher told me, and what my teacher looked out for might not be the same thing your teacher looks out for. Also, i took the exams in N17, and i'm not sure if the marking rubric has changed since then. The most important thing is to follow what your teacher tells you. Simply use this as a rough guide to ensure that you are on the right track. Good luck!
Personal engagement (2 marks)
How is your investigation different from existing works? (reference current scholarly journals)
What is the value/impact of your investigation?
How do your choices of literature reviewed indicate your interest?
How did your preliminary trails help in your design of the experiment?
Exploration (6 marks)
Does your RQ contain all the categories of variables?
Have you been specific about the organisms that you are using?
Are the literature that have been reviewed relevant to your investigation?
Have you explained how the protocol obtains data (dependent variable) that will answer the question?
Does your investigation require control experiments?
Is your methodology in the form of a reported speech?
Are you certain that your apparatus/materials mentioned in the procedure are accounted for in the list?
